Computational organic glasses / Martelli & Russo / Daresbury and Bristol (UK)
We are looking for an outstanding PhD student willing to work on the field of organic glasses from a computational point of view. The project involves building microscopic models able to capture the formation of organic glasses in conditions relevant to biology and technology. The project is an iCASE project partially founded by IBM and partially funded by EPSRC, and is a collaborative project between IBM Research UK and the University of Bristol. The research will be undertaken under the supervision of Dr. Fausto Martelli (IBM) and Dr. John Russo (Bristol). The candidate will be based at the IBM Research UK in Daresbury, but will also spend extensive periods at the School of Mathematics of the University of Bristol. The collaboration between IBM Research UK and the University of Bristol will provide the student with access to one of the most advanced computational infrastructure in the UK, together with exposure to a vibrant and multi-disciplinary academic environment. The candidate should have a strong background in statistical physics, soft matter physics, and experience in programming. We would be grateful if you could circulate this opening to whoever might be interested. The proposed starting date is in October 2019. Interested candidates should submit their CV along with contacts for references by the 30th of June 2019, to the following email addresses: fausto.martelli(at)ibm.com john.russo(at)bristol.ac.uk
