Alexandre Solon (2012) – CNRS RESEARCHER
EPS YOUNG SCIENTIST PRIZE IN STATISTICAL PHYSICS (2019)
After the PCS master, I did a PhD at the MSC laboratory (Matière et Systèmes Complexes) under the supervision of Dr. Julien Tailleur. I studied various aspects of the statistical physics of fluids of self-propelled particles, i.e., active matter. Many tools I learned at the PCS master were useful every day: stochastic calculus, statistical field theory and out-of-equilibrium statistical physics in particular. At the fall of 2015 I started a post-doc at the MIT’s Physics Department, for which I obtained a fellowship « Physics of Living systems » of the Moore Foundation for three years. While continuing the research I started during my PhD, I now work on various biophysical problems, in particular on the contraction of the cellular cortex or on the collective effects in the growth of cell colonies.
